Knee osteoarthritis entails inflammation as well as pain. An analysis of 3 research reports points out that biomarkers of inflammation and cartilage degradation because of osteoarthritis decreased in the Mediterranean diet group. (1) Particularly, the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1α decreased in the Mediterranean diet group.
