Let Watertown Wellness Center take care of your spine when it requires some special attention to get back to its healthy state. The first step toward health for a Watertown smoker suffering with back pain may necessitate a chiropractic treatment plan that includes a plan to quit smoking.

WHO SMOKES?

Researchers are curious about factors linked to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who went through back surgery, they found that 18% were smokers. The researchers noted that compared to the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male, nondiabetic, and nonobese. Patients in this group who suffer with coronary artery disease were more likely to be smokers. Smokers who underwent lumbar spine back surgery presented initially more with leg pain than back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education status were also related to smoking status. Interestingly though, smoking status didn’t affect the disability status one year after back surgery. (1) Altering such risk factors work equally well for smokers and nonsmokers luckily. Watertown Wellness Center would help a Watertown smoker who has Watertown back pain create a plan to stop smoking.

SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY

The body knows what’s good for it…and what’s not. Smoking is not. Examining 2307 smokers and non-smokers, researchers found that smoking is greatly associated with spine pain. Headache, trunk pain and limb pain ensued. Active smoking is linked to pain in every part of the body. The spine and head withstand the brunt of the painful influence though. If a smoker does not like pain, you’ll want to consider stop smoking! (2) Watertown Wellness Center is with you to back your effort to quit smoking when you’re ready.
